Festival 11 Press Release

Churches get it together for Festival 11

Churches Together in Spelthorne have reported an excellent week of activities, events and presentations which took place as part of “Festival 11” in Staines, Ashford and Sunbury between 12 – 18 June.

“Festival 11” was inspired by the Churches Together group in Spelthorne as an opportunity to engage with the community in creative ways which were fun, entertaining and inspiring.

A full and varied programme of events was put together to suit all ages and tastes; ranging from urban street dancing in the Two Rivers, Staines, to a curry and quiz night at Tamanna’s Indian restaurant in Ashford; from “gospel beats” presented by Hopegene in Starbucks to stand up comedy at the Volare Italian restaurant in Ashford; from the screening of “Kiss me Kate” at the Vue cinema, to classic jazz and big band at Staines Methodist Church and a fun day on the Royal Estate at Laleham.

The festival events this year are part of an ongoing initiative by the churches in Spelthorne to connect with the community around them.  Plans are now in place for a community event to take place next year in 2012 to tie in with the Olympics.
